Black, highly polished (not painted) pottery. Polished by appling a coating of liquid clay, and quickly burnishing with a stone resulting in a smooth, shiny surface once the pot is fired.

This pot possibly attributed to world famous Pueblo artist, Maria Martinex (1887-1980).
